The Design Village Outlet Mall in Simpang Ampat celebrated its 5th anniversary with a “Container Art Food Truck Gathering” recently.
Present was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Yeoh Soon Hin and other dignitaries.
“Seberang Perai is full of potential which is poised to become a tourist hotspot due to its beautiful natural assets such as mangrove swamps, migratory birds and Sungai Perai.
“It has been our effort to make this area shine a light on some of Seberang Perai’s undiscovered and hidden gems, showing that there’s much more to offer in Penang.
“As such, I assure you that the state government will continue to focus on the vibrant tourism industry of Seberang Perai to encourage its growth in the future,” said Yeoh in his speech.
Yeoh also hoped that Seberang Perai will also become a major attraction for businesses and leisure visitors to the northern Peninsular Malaysia.
The Design Village Outlet Mall is Malaysia’s biggest outlet mall and the only outlet concept mall in the Northern region housing various international and national brands.
In 2018, through Penang International Food Festival (PIFF) organised by Penang State Government, Design Village stepped into the global spotlight by securing a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for holding the Largest Food Truck Rally during Penang International Food Festival, where 158 food trucks gathered to serve their grubs in one place, at the same time.
“With the recent relocation of these 2 containers to Design Village and Square @ Cassia respectively, it will create a unique township identity and add an artistic touch to Bandar Cassia, enhancing the creative economy ecosystem here at the mainland.
“This will also allow Bandar Cassia to be transformed into a work-life balance city, freshening up the urban development of Bandar Cassia with a sense of creativity. This is well-aligned with the Penang Tourism Master Plan (PGTMP) which emphasizes on a balanced and sustainable tourism growth in different districts of the state.
“Speaking of container art, allow me to highlight some of our container art-related accolades that have propelled Penang’s fame in the worldwide landscape, earning us recognitions from local and international online platforms,” added Yeoh.
