Delegates and guests at the 7th edition of BE @ Penang conference being held at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre had the opportunity to meet the humanoid robot “Pepper”.
The conference is organized by Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB). Some 200 local and foreign delegates are attending the event.
Pepper was seen meeting and greeting people who had come up to her.
Even Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow greeted Pepper during the launching ceremony of the event.
Pepper actually made her appearance in 2014 and was made by Softbank Robotics.
“She has the ability to recognise human emotions by analysing facial expressions and voice tones,” said K. Rajaaperumal, the robotics and automation engineer with TechCapital MyRO Sdn Bhd.
It was reported that the first batch of units were sold out in under a minute back then.
Pepper can be seen greeting customers in stores and hotels in Japan, United Kingdom and Canada.
However, the production of any new Peppers has been stopped.
