Present at the ceremony was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang Art Gallery gallery chairman Lee Khai and the director of Penang Museum Haryany Mohamad among others.
Also recognised was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow and YB Yeoh himself.
Another recipient was the Tzu Chi Northern Region Commissioner Dato Khoo Boo Leong.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO) had contributed in terms of materials, manpower and also financial assistance for those impacted by the pandemic and the following lockdown.
In his address, Yeoh paid tribute to Dr Teoh for her kind contribution.
“The volunteers not only sacrificed their time and effort but also their safety during the Covid-19 pandemic. Such was their contribution that even the world recognised our country’s efforts to combat the pandemic.
“To-date we have also managed to recover our state’s economy and slowly return to normality,” said Yeoh in his speech.
In the meantime, Khoo said that he was truly honoured and humbled to have received this meaningful award.
“This award represents a recognition for the contribution that Tzu-Chi and our team have made and will continue to make in the effort to protect the community from covid 19 and reduce the impact of the pandemic.
“I also take this opportunity to thank the organisers of this significant ceremony,” said Khoo to Penang Hyperlocal.
