In keeping with the Year of the Ox this year, staff at the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) demonstrated their resourcefulness to come up with putting up befitting decorations to Usher in the Chinese New Year.
This Year of the Ox in the Chinese zodiac calendar even represents to the symbol of diligence, persistence, and honesty.
Among the structures which are made out of recycled items are the God of Prosperity, oranges, the Ox , fire crackers and many more.
Council staff utilized materials like old tyres, old carpets, cardboard, plastic bottles, PVC pipes, discarded clothes, ropes, tins and others.
Prior to this structure, they had also displayed their Christmas deco at the entrance of the Penang Island City Council.
The team was headed by Pembantu Kesihatan Awam, Ahmad Nizuar Nordin and his team.
“We encourage the recycling to reduce waste at the dumping ground and support Penang’s recycling efforts.
“The initiative is also an opportunity to show talent and create togetherness among staff.
“We also receive great support from the mayor and councillors for putting up these projects,” said a spokesman for the council.
They also hope to put up new deco for the up-coming Hari Raya celebrations and also for the Merdeka celebrations.
“We also call on the public not to vandalize these decorations so that they can be admired by to others,” said Xavier Sebastian, Deputy Director of Urban Services Department.
MBPP makes it a point to put up decorations made out of recycled materials in conjunction with every major festival in the country.
