
The Ascott International Management Malaysia, via its Citadines brand embarked on a large-scale community-driven initiative in Penang recently.
The commendable initiative saw participation from representatives of all 22 properties across Malaysia, along with the Ascott International Management Malaysia corporate office, making it a nationwide effort to support environmental and community welfare.
In keeping with the saying of “leadership by example”, the group’s Vice President, Strategy & Regional General Manager, Philippines and Malaysia for The Ascott Limited, Ms Sophie Mougel and Mondi Mecja, Country General Manager Malaysia for The Ascott Limited were in the forefront of the programme.
Joining them were all of the hotel general managers, resident managers and team members.

The initiative was also supported by Citadines Connect Georgetown Penang, Citadines Connect Cecil Georgetown Penang, and Citadines Prai Penang, focused on two impactful projects: a river cleanup at Sungai Air Itam and repair and renovation work at Crystal Family Home, an orphanage and parental care center for children.
The event brought together over 80 dedicated staff members, including Ascott Malaysia’s top management who traveled from various states to participate in the meaningful cause.
“As a responsible corporate entity, we believe in making a difference where it matters the most,” said Lee Boon Kae, Group General Manager overseeing multiple properties under Citadines and affiliated brands in Penang. Through Ascott, we actively engage in CSR initiatives that contribute to the welfare of our environment and society.”

The team embarked on Sungai Air Itam Cleanup in collaboration with YB Joseph Ng Soon Siang, the cleanup project aimed to remove waste and pollutants from the river, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.
Then they went on to the Crystal Family Home Repairs where volunteers assisted in facility repairs, painting, and creating a more comfortable space for the children.
Pastor David Bernabas, who oversees 11 children aged 9 to 18 at the home, expressed appreciation for the initiative, stating, “This activity is truly valuable as it not only provides physical improvements but also shows the children that they are loved and cared for beyond financial donations.”
YB Joseph Ng commended the initiative, stating, “This is the first time that an entire corporate group has participated in such an activity. I hope this effort continues and can be expanded to involve local schools.”
Ascott Malaysia remains dedicated to its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and will continue supporting projects that promote environmental awareness and community involvement through its Ascott Cares initiative.
