The spill-over effect of Chinese tourists coming to Penang is even felt at a popular Wan Tan Mee outlet along Argyll Road here.

Chinese tourists have taken a liking to the popular Wan Tan Mee outlet here in the heart of George Town, Penang.

The frequency of direct flights have seen droves of Chinese tourists visiting the city and taking in the sights and sceneries of the UNESCO Heritage Site attractions.

According to the operator of the outlet, Choo Wee Keong, the number of Chinese tourists patronising his outlet had increased over time.

“I understand they got to know of my outlets through the hotels they are staying at, through online recommendations or even through word of mouth.

“Some of them even come for breakfast and also lunch as they walk around the town and later come back for their second meal here.

“These numbers have increased with the “Golden Week” being observed in the People’s Republic of China’s most extended holiday. Families unite to take vacations and travel together during this period.

“On top of this, we also get a fair number of Thais, Singaporeans and Indonesian tourists who frequent our outlet.

Meanwhile, Choo, his father in law and his wife Chan Mei Yang have been operating their outlet for the past five years.

Their eatery is even frequented by the Chief Minister of Penang and many locals as well.

As of now, Penang has established direct flight connections to seven (7) cities in China, including Xiamen (Xiamen Airlines), Guangzhou (China Southern Airlines), Shenzhen (Shenzhen Airlines and upcoming AirAsia in October), Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific, AirAsia, and upcoming HK Express Airways in November), Shanghai (Juneyao Airlines and Shanghai Airlines), Haikou (Batik Air charters), and Chongqing (Firefly Airlines charters).
