In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Penang Hill Railway, a list of interesting programmes has been lined up for the momentous occasion.

Dubbed “East Meets West”, the Penang Hill Festival (PHF) 2023 promises a variety of events like orchestra performance, homegrown performers, Boria performances, classical performance like sitar and tabla rendition as well as Chinese orchestra.

The main celebration will be from July 21 to 23, 2023.

Other interesting projects are the Canon Malaysia photography and videography workshops among others.

Present to announce the latest developments was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang Hill Corporation general manager, Datuk Cheok Lay Lean, Tourism Malaysia Northern region director Shahrul Aman and his deputy, Siti Hajar, Penang Global Tourism CEO, Ooi Chok Yan, Canon Malaysia Penang Head, Daren Tan among others.

“The Penang Hill Festival which started in 2018 is a much anticipated event yearly. This year we celebrate a significant milestone for our Penang Hill Railway turning 100 years.

“The unique mode of transport which started in 1923 has remained one of the main modes of  transportation on the hill till this day.

“Penang Hill is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is an iconic destination for visitors from around the world,” added Yeoh in his address.

Meanwhile, Cheok thanked the Penang state government for their continued support and more importantly providing the necessary budget for their restoration, rehabilitation and rejuvenation projects.

“In 2019 some 1.86 million people visited Penang Hill and in the first three months of this year we had some 400,000 visitors.We have various packages for everyone, young and old,” he added.
