A timely session on the hazards of corruption was organized by the Crime Consciousness & Public Safety Society (CCPSS) at The Wembley – A St Giles Hotel, Penang earlier today.
Some 150 people from the various corporate sectors, non-governmental organisations (NGO) and members of the public attended the gathering.
Present was the chairman of CCPSS, Dato Mohamad Anil Shah and its ambassador, Seah Kok Heng and their committee.
Leading the presentation was the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (Penang) Assistant Superintendent Mazlan Haja Maideen.
“Corruption is a crime. Ignorance of the law is no excuse and widespread corruption can affect the economy of the country.
“It is therefore a question of integrity and good moral values. I am here to share my experience and not a position of authority,” says Mohd Anil in his opening address.
Meanwhile, Mazlan shared that the many ways and methods people commit corruption in the country.
“Giving or asking for a bribe is a crime punishable by law. The crime may take many forms example, money, to receive or offer, goods, services, discount, false claims, favours etc
“Our department is free to investigate any reports of corruption irrespective of the post or position of the individual. They will be brought to the court of law.
“Members of the public can also report incidences of corruption and graft to our commission. We will ensure to safeguard their identities” added Mazlan.
Guests were also seen taking active part in the questions and answer session. At the end of the session, they took part in an oath taking session to eradicate corruption.
They were also presented with a certificate of attendance.
