Canadian Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay concluded a two-day trade mission to Malaysia recently.

The meeting highlighted and built on the strong business and people-to-people ties between Canada, Malaysia and the Indo-Pacific, through meetings with government counterparts, industry leaders and the facilitation of new and exciting partnerships.

His trip to Malaysia was a significant step forward in expanding global trade and investment for Canadian producers.

During his visit to Kuala Lumpur, the Minister met with the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup to discuss how Canada can contribute to Malaysia’s food security goals, and how to leverage the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to both countries’ mutual benefit.

The Minister also met with the Malaysia-Canada Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors to promote our world-class Canadian products and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing market access.

Minister MacAulay also led a roundtable discussion with Malaysian industry representatives on market opportunities and trends in both countries.

Following his visit to Malaysia, the Minister will be traveling to the Philippines where he will be officially opening Canada’s Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Office (IPAAO).

Malaysia was Canada’s 27th largest agriculture and food export market globally and 14th largest in the Indo-Pacific region in 2022.
