Great news especially for the Penang hospitality sector and the overall economy of the state.
The Penang International Airport (PIA) is all set to welcome flights under the Penang – Singapore “Vaccinated Travel Lane” (VTL).
“Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd (MASB) has conducted the necessary spatial planning in PIA to ensure smooth facilitation of the Penang – Singapore flights, ” said State Exco forTourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin in a press statement today.
Yeoh said that the spatial planning includes designating a dedicated aerobridge and airport apron for passengers to disembark.
Meanwhile, PIA has also established a Medical Lab for swab test purposes, said Yeoh after visiting PIA on Monday to inspect the final stages and progress of its VTL preparations.
Yeoh also added that passengers who are tested negative upon screening arrival will be allowed to enter Penang, whereas passengers who are tested positive will be sent to the special isolation area for further measures.
He emphasized that the Penang State Government remains committed in curbing the virus spread to ensure that the ‘Penang – Singapore’ VTL scheme can yield economic recovery for the state.
