The state-level Vaisakhi celebrations took place in grand fashion at the Esplanade last evening, drawing a lively crowd despite looming rain clouds.

Thousands gathered to take part in the vibrant festivities, celebrating Punjabi culture through music, dance, and a feast of authentic cuisine.

The event was graced by a host of dignitaries, including Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak. This marks one of his final public appearances as he nears the end of his term later this month.

He was warmly welcomed by Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow and Deputy Chief Minister II YB Jagdeep Singh Deo. Also in attendance were state executive council members YB Zairil Khir Johari and YB Lim Siew Khim; Member of Parliament for Bukit Gelugor, Ram Karpal Singh; Penang Mayor Dato A. Rajendran; and Penang High Court Judge Dato’ Annand Ponnudurai, among others.

In his speech, Jagdeep expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor, saying, “We appreciate and applaud your contribution and guidance throughout the years.”

The event drew over 5,000 attendees, all treated to a rich showcase of Punjabi culture — from energetic performances to an array of traditional delicacies, including freshly made chapatis and other mouthwatering dishes.

“Though small in number, we will continue to contribute to the success of Penang and Malaysia,” Jagdeep added, also extending his gratitude to the organizing committee and dedicated volunteers.
