A local pharmacy, Alpro Pharmacy wants to share essential precautionary and recovery measures for communities in flood-prone areas this monsoon season.

With over 300 outlets across Malaysia, they will readily provide health consultations and support during this flood season.

Alpro will provide free medication to support flood victims who need chronic medications under their Life-saving Medication Care Programme.

Under the Programme, Alpro Pharmacy will provide a one-time chronic medication supply to communities affected by natural disasters for up to seven (7) days for free.

Affected consumers can visit any Alpro Pharmacy in Malaysia to speak to the pharmacists for more details.

A police report copy of the flooding is required for verification purposes. Those who have lost their prescription can get their free consultation and e-prescription with an online doctor on the spot.

To ensure you receive the support you need, our pharmacists are certified in Minor Illnesses Services (MIS) to handle acute illnesses and are available at your nearest Alpro Pharmacy outlets. Feel free to ask our pharmacists for more details about flood precautionary and recovery measures including dengue vaccinations.

With over 300 outlets across Malaysia, we readily provide health consultations and support during this flood season.

Prior to a flood:
• Closely monitor your surroundings to stay up to date on weather forecasts and
warnings.
• Assemble disaster supplies, including long-term medications and first aid kits, in water-proof bags in case of evacuation.
• Patients, especially the elderly, with chronic diseases are advised to visit their
nearest pharmacy along with their chronic medications to keep a record in the
pharmacy and have an up-to-date medication list.
• Get vaccinated against dengue. The monsoon season significantly increases the risk of dengue fever due to rising mosquito populations. Vaccination builds immunity and offers better protection for you and your family, allowing you to enjoy peace of mind during this time.

Post-flood recovery:
Flooded areas with compromised sanitation and hygiene can quickly become hotspots for diseases like Leptospirosis, Cholera, and Dengue fever. After a flood, watch symptoms such as fever, headaches, diarrhoea, muscle pain, and vomiting, which could indicate infection.

If any of these symptoms occur, it’s crucial to seek immediate medical care at the nearest healthcare facility.

In addition, one may be more susceptible to illness, including conjunctivitis (also known as “red eye,” indicating irritation of the eyes that arises after contacting contaminated water), skin rashes, or infected cuts and wounds. Should these symptoms occur, it is best to seek advice from the pharmacists for best care.

Alpro Pharmacy understands that natural disasters like flash flood leave victims no time to collect their belongings, including long-term medications.
