The management of the HARRIS Hotels & Conventions Sunshine Penang (HHCSP) is pleased to announce the appointment of seasoned hotelier, Alex Phuah as their new general manager.
Phuah brings over 36 years of extensive experience and expertise in the hospitality industry.
A Penangite himself, he previously spent seven years as the Resident Manager at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort in Sabah, preceded by overseeing a combined inventory of 1,100 rooms at The Wembley, Cititel Express and Cititel Penang.
Earlier in his career, he held key Food & Beverage leadership roles in Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Traders Hotel in Penang.
Phuah is a strong advocate for environmental and social governance, having led his previous teams to achieve the ASEAN Green Hotel Standardand multiple certifications for environmental safety management.
He will play a pivotal role in leading the HHCSP pre-opening team and driving the successful launch of the property. He will oversee all aspects of hotel operations, management and revenue optimization, ensuring they establish the highest service standards right from day one.
His responsibilities encompass steering marketing strategies, maintaining robust food safety and cost control systems and fostering a high performing team to deliver exceptional guest satisfaction.
Additionally, Phuah will also guide the property’s sustainability and community initiatives, an area where he has a proven track record.
