For loyal fans of the legendary Alleycats, it was a night of nostalgia, music and memories as the Unity Band took audiences on a delightful trip down memory lane at the “Tribute to the Alleycats.” gathering last night.
Held at Shangri-La Golden Sands in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations, the evening brought together music lovers who grew up with the melodies and distinctive sound of one of Malaysia’s most beloved bands.
Adding a special touch to the occasion was the presence of Dato’ David Arumugam, the legendary lead singer of the original Alleycats. His appearance added an extra dose of excitement to an already memorable evening, with fans delighted to see the iconic performer whose voice has been synonymous with countless Malaysian favourites.
Fans also took the opportunity to take selfies with David too.
Lending support to the fine evening Penang Deputy Chief Minister II, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo and his family members. The evening was also a gathering of familiar names and personalities.
The Unity Band kept the nostalgic spirit alive with a repertoire of evergreen Alleycats hits, including “Sampaikan Salam”, “Hingga Akhir Nanti”, “Andainya Aku Pergi Dulu”, “Sekuntum Mawar Merah Sebuah Puisi,” “Jika Kau Bercinta Lagi,” “Senandung Semalam”, “Suara Kekasih” and many more favourites.
Each familiar melody seemed to transport guests back to another era, when Alleycats songs were a staple on the radio and at celebrations, becoming part of the soundtrack of Malaysian life.
Welcoming their guests was Cluster general manager for Shangri-La Rasa Sayang and Shangri-La Golden Sands, Jegan Selvarajan and Dato’ Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Also spotted was Dato’ Gulab Mahatam Rai, general manager of Lone Pine Penang and Hotel NEO+ Penang, Penang Marriott Hotel general manager Michael Faraq, Dato’ Rethinam Pillay, Dato’ Seri Dr. Anwar Fazal among others.
As fans held a sing along session, the blend of music and camaraderie brought back good old memories.
