Hotelier John Kim has been appointed as the Resident Manager of St Giles Wembley & Cititel Express Penang with effect from Monday June 8, 2026.
With more than 16 years of service in the hospitality industry, Kim brings with him a strong track record in hotel operations, leadership, revenue management and guest service excellence.
Over the course of his career, he has held key positions in several established hotels in Penang and Ipoh, steadily building a reputation as a dedicated and capable hospitality professional.
Prior to this appointment, Kim served as Director of Operations at Hotel NEO+ Penang, where he worked closely with the corporate office on operational standards, training, employee retention initiatives and overall hotel performance.
Before that, he was the Hotel Manager of Mei Hotel Penang from 2017 to 2025, where he was part of the pre-opening team and played an instrumental role in guiding the hotel’s operations, mission and long-term direction.
His earlier career includes leadership roles such as General Manager at Tandop Hotel Sdn Bhd, as well as positions at Heritage Hotel Ipoh, Best Western Premier The Haven Ipoh and Hotel Equatorial Penang, where he gained extensive experience in front office operations, rooms division management, guest relations and team development.
Kim holds a BA (Hons) in Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality from Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom. He is also a Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA®), a globally respected credential that reflects his professional expertise and commitment to excellence in hotel management.
In addition to his industry achievements, Kim has also contributed actively to the broader tourism and hospitality community.
He currently serves as the Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Penang Chapter for the 2025–2028 term, having previously held the same role from 2022 to 2025. His commitment to both industry advancement and community service is further reflected in his recognition as a recipient of the Pingat Jasa Masyarakat (P.J.M.) from the State of Penang in 2023.
In his new role as Resident Manager, Kim will oversee all aspects of hotel operations and sales at St Giles Wembley & Cititel Express Penang. He will report directly to General Manager Dato’ Tony Goh, who also serves as Chairman of the MAH Penang Chapter.
