
The Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta 2025 is this weekend (Nov 28 to Nov 30), and participants, their families and supporters are already making their way here.
Among the very first was the team from the Palm Beach Dragons from Gold Coast, Australia.
Other teams taking part are those from China (15 teams which included 10 teams from Hong Kong), Singapore (7teams), Japan (1 team), Thailand (1 team), Brunei (1 team), Philippines (1 team), Liechtenstein (1 team), Chinese Taipei (4 teams) and Malaysia (20 teams).
A press conference was held in Komtar yesterday to announce the finer details of the regatta.
On hand to share the details was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai and members of the organising committee.
“This is the second time the event is being held at the Straits Quay Retail Marina. The venue offers unobstructed views of the racecourse, convenient access to food, retail, and family-friendly activities, and an electric atmosphere that transforms the waterfront into a hub of excitement.
“The Regatta continues to grow in prestige and scale on the international level. For 2025, we are proud to host over 54 teams from more than 11 countries and regions, showcasing the Regatta as one of the most diverse and internationally recognized sporting events in Penang.
“This impressive diversity — from South East Asia, North Asia, Australia and Europe — underscores Penang’s status as a hub for international cultural and sporting events,” added Wong.
More than 1600 participants and their families and friends are expected to converge in Penang. .
