Penang is set to elevate its appeal as a world-class holiday destination with the introduction of the “Penang Princess” Luxury Cruise Restaurant, a new attraction poised to redefine the state’s maritime tourism landscape.

At the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, witnessed by Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin, Chairman of the Penang Port Commission (PPC), he highlighted how this landmark project marks a major step forward in positioning Penang as a more diverse, vibrant, and globally competitive travel destination.

The Penang Princess will be Penang’s first high-end cruise experience combining luxury dining, panoramic sea views, and immersive sightseeing along the Straits of Malacca. This unique offering expands Penang’s tourism charm beyond the island, giving visitors a new way to explore the state from the water.

Yeoh emphasized that the cruise restaurant will not only enrich Penang’s collection of tourism products but also stimulate the local economy in multiple sectors—from hospitality, culinary services, and maritime operations to entertainment, events, and technical services.

“This initiative is expected to create new job opportunities and energize a wide range of industries,” he said. “The ship’s operations will spur the growth of supporting supply chains including logistics, maritime services, food supply, as well as entertainment and event production.”

Designed as a premium tourism experience, the Penang Princess is expected to attract high-spending travelers, enhance local spending, and extend visitor stays—further strengthening Penang’s reputation as a must-visit destination with diverse and world-class tourism offerings.

As the authority committed to advancing Penang’s port operations and maritime culture, the Penang Port Commission will continue to support initiatives that blend sea culture, gastronomy, and international-standard experiences. Yeoh noted that the Penang Princess is poised to become a new icon for sea weddings, corporate events, cultural showcases, and private celebrations, opening fresh opportunities for local businesses and creative industries.

He expressed special appreciation to Kenny Nye, Founder and Managing Director of Ocean World Cruise Holdings Group, and his team for their dedication in bringing this visionary tourism product to life—anchoring a new chapter in Penang’s maritime tourism story.

With its upcoming maiden voyage, the Penang Princess is set to shine as a symbol of Penang’s continued tourism evolution—enhancing global visibility, attracting international collaboration, and adding yet another compelling reason for travelers to choose Penang.

“Together, let us transform Penang into not only a celebrated food paradise, but also Southeast Asia’s leading maritime tourism destination,” Yeoh concluded.
