Gleneagles Hospital Penang is proud to celebrate a historic milestone as Dr. Suresh Kumarasamy, Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist, receives the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asian Society of Gynaecologic Oncology (ASGO), the highest honour conferred by the international organisation.

The prestigious award was recently presented in Tokyo, Japan, recognising pioneers whose research, leadership, and dedication have transformed the field of gynaecologic oncology across Asia. Since its inception in 2009, only nine individuals have been awarded this distinction to date. This year, Dr. Suresh joins an elite group, becoming the first person from Malaysia to be given this award.

“This award is not just a personal honour but a reflection of the progress we’ve made in women’s cancer care in this region. I am humbled, and I remain committed to pushing the boundaries of treatment and research for the benefit of patients everywhere,” said Dr. Suresh Kumarasamy.

With a career spanning more than three decades, Dr. Suresh Kumarasamy is widely respected for his dedication, clinical expertise, and compassionate approach to women’s health and cancer care. His numerous contributions to the field include:

 Establishing the first subspecialty service for gynaecologic oncology in Northern Malaysia, transforming access to specialised gynaecological cancer care for women in the region.
 Raising standards of care for gynaecologic cancer patients through innovation, research, and education.
 Educator and Mentor – In addition to his clinical role at Gleneagles Hospital Penang, Dr. Suresh serves as Adjunct Clinical Professor at RCSI-UCD Malaysia Campus, mentoring the next generation of clinicians.

Basic Obstetrics & Gynaecology training in Malaysia and in the United Kingdom earning initially Membership (1992) and subsequently Fellowship (2009) of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London and a Masters degree in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from University Malaya in 1992.
o Awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland Adeundem, 2011
o Advanced Sub-speciality training in Gynaecological Oncology at the Northern Regional Department of Gynaecological Oncology, Gateshead, United Kingdom
