Cambodia Airways is set to launch its inaugural direct flight between Phnom Penh and Penang on June 26, 2025. The airline will operate twice weekly, with flights every Thursday and Sunday.

This strategic expansion marks a significant step in enhancing Penang’s regional connectivity, reinforcing its status as a premier hub for tourism, trade, and business events in Southeast Asia.

In preparation for the new route, a delegation from the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB)—led by CEO Ashwin Gunasekeran—paid a courtesy visit and held a strategic meeting at Cambodia Airways’ headquarters in Phnom Penh earlier today. The discussion focused on fostering collaboration to ensure the successful launch and long-term sustainability of the route.

The PCEB delegation also included Ms. Siti Sarah Ismail, Head of Sales & Marketing, and Terry Neoh, Marketing & Communications Manager. They met with Mr. Guowei Bai, Executive Deputy General Manager of Cambodia Airways; Mr. Daniel Li, Deputy Director of the Marketing Committee; and Ms. Sok Ravy, Assistant to the CEO SOB of Cambodia Airways.

Established in 2017, Cambodia Airways has grown rapidly to become the nation’s only locally-owned full-service airline, offering premium service with distinct Khmer hospitality. The airline operates a fleet of six Airbus A319/A320 aircraft and has completed over 17,000 flights—transporting more than 1.7 million passengers and logging over 35,000 flight hours. In 2024 alone, it served over 620,000 passengers across 22 domestic and international destinations.

The new Phnom Penh–Penang route is expected to drive growth in Penang’s hospitality sector, boost medical tourism, and contribute positively to the broader economy.
