As the war between Russia and Ukraine drags on for the third year, the Consul of Ukraine in Penang held an exclusive screening of the film “BUCHA” based on actual events in Bucha, Vorzel, and Hostomel (Kyiv region) during the Russian occupation in the first months of the war in February-March 2022.

Present was Dato Seri Chuah Kim Seah, the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Penang. 

Also present was the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Penang, His Excellency Bapak Wanton Saragih Sid, Consul of Social and Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in Penang, Bapak Dadang Rahmat, along with the Honorary Consul of Poland, Dato Seri Suppiah Manikam, President of Penang Premium Business Enterprise Association and Founder of Hunza Group, Dato Seri Khor Teng Tong and the Honorary Consul of Brazil, Datin Seri Lim, the Honorary Consul of Belgium, Michael Van Crombrugge (CROMBUHAK)  among others.

In his address Chuah said that Ukrainians have faced unimaginable hardship, courage and resilience over the last three years and you are still able to stay strong to face the challenges.

“As the Honorary Consul of Ukraine, I would like to take this opportunity to mourn those who have lost their lives, especially the civilians, the soldiers, men, women, and children in defending your own country.

“As a Penangite and also the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Penang, I am so eagerly looking forward to a date where a peace deal is reached amicably so that many of you will have the opportunity to visit this beautiful country again.

“I had just spoken to the former Ambassador of Ukraine to Malaysia who is now the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ukraine that this week is an important week for Ukraine to strike a reasonable peace deal for the benefit of all parties”, said Chuah in his opening address.

This year, Ukraine will mark three years since the start of Russia’s full-scale military invasion.

The film BUCHA portrays the main character who is a foreigner who decided to fight against Russia’s evil aggression in Ukraine, a country that became his home.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Border Service of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the Kyiv City Council, and the Kyiv Regional Military Administration assisted the team in the creation and filming of the movie.

The primary goal of this event is to highlight the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, now entering its third year and to emphasize its far-reaching consequences.

The main aim of the film is to present a compelling visual narrative of Ukraine’s struggle, capturing moments of heroism, tragedy, hope and victory.
