A team from the Malaysian Association of Hotels Training Education Centre (MAHTEC) and the Langkawi Tourism Academy @Kolej Komuniti Langkawi held a strategic meeting to explore possibilities of a collaboration between both parties.
The aim of the session was to further elevate the training and education for potential students in the hospitality industry.
Representing MAH KL was Dato Megat Shahrul Azman Abas (Hon Secretary), Isaac Raj CEO MAH Kuala Lumpur, Pn Fadhillah Arifin (MAH general manager) from Kuala Lumpur.
Joining them was MAH Kedah/Perlis Chapter chairman Eugene Dass and his vice chairman Adrian Chua.
The team from LTA were Pn Rohana Sahak (Director LTA) , A. Azman Arshad, Pn Mornizawati Abdullah and their team members.
The initial idea for this collaboration was conceived in 2023 and followed up in August 2023.Among the initiatives are for the recognition of the certification for hotel industry professionals and also for brand awareness
When the details of the collaborations are worked out soon, the MAHTEC offshore Centre in Langkawi will be becoming a reality.
Among the future initiatives and potentials are on expanding campus depending on response from students, hotels and industry players
Meanwhile, Dato Megat expressed his readiness and interest to move forward this plan on a speedy note and the setting up of the satellite campus.
“We should formalise and launch as soon as possible as we expect students from Kuala Lumpur and nearby areas to participate.
“Langkawi has everything like hotels, resorts, tourism products, travel agents and sea sport activities which will augur well for this programme,” he said adding that the programme will also appeal to foreign students as well.
A working committee is expected to be set-up soon to iron out details of the collaboration.
