LiteFM’s popular host and radio announcer, Phat Fabes was in Penang for the “Club Roots” retro music roadshow which was held at the W Plus Club @ the Bayview Hotel Georgetown recently.

The gathering was a runaway success judging from the overwhelming turnout from retro era music lovers.

In all, an estimated 300 guests from the younger and older music lovers enjoyed a night of nostalgic retro sounds.

Fabes received a resounding round of applause and cheers from the diverse group of guests who had eagerly gathered.

He later took to the deejay console and rendered everlasting favourites while guests took to the dance floor.

“It is good to be back in Penang and catch up with many familiar faces. I have also had a chance to meet several Penang born-deejays who were icons in the happening clubs like Cinta, Study, Borsalino, Carmen’s Inn and many more.

“Tonight is all about bringing you and you down memory lane when you were out partying or dating your girlfriends”, he said in jest.

Other deejays joining him at the retro fest were DJ Wú (LiteFM), DJ Vicky Vanoli (Cinta, Penang), DJ RF (Study Penang), DJ James Naras (Borsalino & The Study, Penang), DJ Johnny Kam (Hollywood East, Penang) and DJ Raj (Carmen’s Inn, Penang).

Meanwhile, Phat Fabes or Fabian Jesse James got started as a deejay at the young age of 16, he played at a skating rink near his house.

After his high school graduation, Fabes then signed with The Music Machine and his first official gig as a DJ was at a club called Faces at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, and the rest is history.

Being born in Ipoh, apart from TV and Radio Phat Fabes also makes appearances as an emcee for corporate and private events when time permits.

He was also recognised for his work as the Best Radio Show; Fly FM’s “The Pagi Show” for SHOUT Awards 2009 and as the “Coolest Radio Announcer Award for SHOUT Awards 2010.

When dining out, he enjoys Indian food especially a good chicken and mutton curry while for Western dishes, he loves a good slab of grass fed steak.

“Travelling locally, I love to go to Penang for its food and scenic views while for overseas travel, Hong Kong and Tokyo are both my foreign destinations”, he added.

Catch Phat Fabes on LiteFM from 3pm to 8pm.
