In a significant step towards community reintegration, Amari Johor Bahru proudly participated in the Johor State Prison Department Intervention Program held recently at the picturesque Physis Beach Campsite in Kota Tinggi, Johor.

This groundbreaking initiative, the first of its kind for the year 2024, aims to support ‘prospects’ under parole in enhancing their self-identity to better assimilate back into society.

The two-day program saw the attendance of 40 individuals, including Johor State Prison Department officers and ‘prospects’ under parole.

The primary objective was to foster a sense of self-worth and practical skills among the ‘prospects’, facilitating a smoother transition into their communities.

Amari Johor Bahru’s involvement was spearheaded by the hotel’s General Manager, Ms Pauline Chua, who has maintained a longstanding relationship with the Federal Prison Department. In her commitment to social responsibility and community support, Chua orchestrated the hotel’s participation in this meaningful program.

“We at Amari Johor Bahru believe in giving everyone a second chance. By equipping these individuals with essential life skills, we hope to inspire confidence and self-reliance, which are crucial for their reintegration into society. Our participation in this program underscores our dedication to being an active and supportive member of our community,” added Chua.

Among the highlights of the program was a cooking session led by Amari Johor Bahru’s head chef, Romzi Abdullah.

During this engaging workshop, Chef Romzi taught the participants how to prepare two delicious and culturally significant dishes from scratch: chicken curry and turmeric fried cabbage.

The hands-on experience was designed to instill a sense of achievement and provide a practical skill that can be used in everyday life or even professional opportunities.

The interactive cooking program not only provided the ‘prospects’ under parole with valuable culinary skills but also emphasized the importance of teamwork, patience, and precision.

The participants expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to learn from a professional chef, with many of them finding a renewed sense of purpose and motivation.

The Johor State Prison Department Intervention Program marks a promising start to a series of similar initiatives planned for various districts throughout the year. These programs aim to create a supportive environment for ‘prospects’ under parole, enabling them to rebuild their lives with dignity and respect.

Amari Johor Bahru is honoured to be part of such a transformative initiative and remains committed to supporting the Johor State Prison Department in their efforts to rehabilitate and reintegrate individuals back into society.

By fostering partnerships with local institutions and participating in community-centric programs, Amari Johor Bahru continues to demonstrate its dedication to corporate social responsibility and community development.
