Group photo with new mayor

History was made in Penang when the new mayor of Penang Island City Council, Dato A. Rajendran was appointed in a glittering ceremony at the City Hall this morning.
Present was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow, State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo.
Heads of the various departments and officers of the council were also present.
Clad in the ceremonial robe and looking radiant , Rajendran took his oath of office. He will take over as the new mayor of the council for a tenure of one year.

Rajendran thanked the state government for their confidence in him so as to be appointed as the mayor.
“I thank the Chief Minister and YB Jagdeep for this honour. However, I am aware of the challenges of the job and I will strive to do my level best to carry out my duties.
“I also appreciate and look forward to the cooperation of everyone at the Penang Island City Council in order to carry out my duties,” added Rajendran in his first address as the Mayor of the Penang Island City Council.
Rajendran had served for 37 years in various capacities in the council and also the state government.
Also present were family members and friends of Rajendran at the swearing in ceremony.
