By V. SivajiA local traditional martial arts organisation, the Penang Porr Kalai Silambam Association aims to enter the Malaysia Book of Records by performing non-stop for 100 hours. The feat will start on Aug 28 to Sept 1, 2026.
Aiming to break their own record, their old record was for performing non-stop for 87 hours.
The art of Silambam is recorded as one of Penang State Heritage segments which includes some 50 elements ranging from landmarks, food and intangible culture. Among them are the historical buildings such as Fort Cornwallis, Kapitan Keling Mosque, Chingay performance, Thaipusam, food items like Char Kway Teow, Cendol and more items.
Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai hosted a press conference in Komtar yesterday to share more details on the record breaking feat.
Present was the association’s chairman Kavi Kumar and committee members too.
Lending support to the event will be Penang Governor Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib who is expected to grace the event which is to be held at USM.
Teams from various states like Federal Territory, Penang, Kedah, Perak, Perlis, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Pahang, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur will also lend support.
Officials from the Malaysia Book of Records will be on hand to witness and record the feat.
“I congratulate all participants, coaches and teams from all of these states in their effort to break the record. Silambam was gazetted as Penang State heritage in 2026. We will continue to develop these heritage elements and pass on to future generations,” added Wong.
