The Penang State Government through Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) is aiming to break the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2023.

They hope to secure some 10,000 participants for the gathering. This year marks its eleventh year of celebration in Penang.

Since 2013, PWDC has been celebrating the annual International Women’s Day. The celebration is to give recognition to all women for their achievements and contribution (directly or indirectly) towards the families, communities, state and national development.

Globally, IWD is celebrated on March 8 and this year the theme of the celebration is Embrace Equity.

To commemorate International Women’s Day 2023, PWDC has organised a list of fun-filled activities such as HARIA! Mega Zumba, Purple Fiesta, and a Carnival. The celebration will take place on March 11th, Saturday at Midtown Perda, Kubang Menerong, Tasek Gelugor, Penang.

These activities are meant to bring families together and for everyone to show their support towards the women in their lives. Besides that, its objective is also to ensure more people in Penang are aware of the vision of Penang2030 which is to further promote a Family-focused, Green and Smart State That Inspires the Nation.

The theme, embrace equity, is in line with the vision of PWDC, which envisions a Penang which upholds in practice the principles of substantive equality among women and men, good governance, and social justice.

As PWDC thrives to work towards achieving gender equality, especially in the political and economic fields, it has also always ensured that equity is emphasized through the implementation of its Gender Inclusiveness Policy which was launched in 2019. The Gender Responsive Participatory Budgeting (GRPB) and the Gender Balanced Management (GBM) approach are being implemented by the Penang State and Local Governments as part of the Gender Inclusiveness Policy.
