In line with the Penang State Government,’s aspirations to promote sports tourism, the Penang Sports Club (PSC) will organise the 22nd PSC-Cheetah International Soccer 7’s tournament 2023.

The tournament is making its comeback after the hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

Some 56 teams from Australia, China, India, South Africa, Brunei, Maldives, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan, Johore, Kuala Lumpur/Selangor, Malacca and Penang will take part.

The tournament will be held from March 4 to 5, 20223 at the PSC grounds and will be the biggest turnout of local and foreign teams. 

“Some 1,000 participants, officials and supporters are expected to converge in Penang for the meet.

“Among the new teams are from Shanghai (China), Calcutta (India) and Hong Kong. The tournament will be played under three categories, namely, Veterans, Masters and Grandmasters category.

“As in previous years, most of the participating teams will be parading many ex-internationals with ex-state players in the line-up,” said organising chairman Dr S. Pandiraja.

Among the well-known local players are Datuk Wira Soh Chin Aun, Datuk Santokh Singh, Vincent Thambiraja, Zainal Abidin, Khalid Ali, Alen Bijkusa, Thoon Chee Eng, Rukumaran as well as Suriamurthi, Sundramoorthy, K. Kanan from Singapore.

The opening ceremony will be officiated by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak on March 4th at 9am.

Among those on the organising committee members are advisors, Dr Shankar, Pathumanathan and Michael Lim. Treasurer – Balasubramaniam and Soon Yean Sun, Media & Protocol – Dato Mohd Junid and Pathumanathan, Technical – Nadarajan & Narayanasamy, Food & Beverage – Ravee, Cheah Nathan & Mahendran, Infrastructure – Tan Nian Yao & Elvin,  Souvenir programme & Sponsorship – Michael Lim & Mohd Azrel and Philip Teoh, Medical – Dr Kalaikumar, Trophy & medals – Mahendran, Entertainment –  Vijayendra and Dato Dr Shankar, Security – Superintendent Saravanan and Tuan Ananth and lastly for T-shirts – Elvin and Tan Nian Yao.

At a get-to-know-session recently with the media members in Penang at the Hoseki Restaurant, the PSC organising committee hosted a fine lunch meeting with various representatives of the local media fraternity.

Also lending support at the gathering was Penang Football Club Sdn Bhd (PFC) general manager, Jeffrey Chew. 

“Penang FC is happy to be invited to watch for this fine two decade annual tournament. Football is a universal game and behalf of Penang FC, I wish the PSC organizing committee the very best,” added Chew.
