YB Yeoh checking out the various food

The Penang Heritage Forum hosted a talk entitled “Indian Heritage IN Penang” at its premises to share insight information on the community, origins and its traditions.

State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin was on hand to launch the gathering.

Among the speakers were Assoc Prof Dr Premalatha Karupiah, Researcher Preveena Balakrishnan and Researcher Sanjeh K. Raman.

Also present was Penang State Heritage Commissioner, Rosli Nor, General Manager of Penang Harmony Corporation, Paul A and the Hon Consul of France in Penang, Teoh Seng Aun among others.

The roti man

“I understand that this gathering will share and give an understanding of Indian heritage in Penang. I am happy to note the overwhelming response from members of the public.

“Earlier, today we also enjoyed a heritage breakfast with the likes of valai, apom, babur, tea, bubur kacang putch, tosai etc and other delicacies,” said Yeoh.

There was also an old school roti man with his three wheel cart and a kacang puten corner.

The speaker shared information on the early comings of the business community, migration, British era, ships, economic contribution in building roads, railway, rubber plantation, textile, gold industry and early ships which transported them and other new insights.
