Due to the on-going coronovirus or Covid-19 epidemic, the annual Penang Dragon Boat Regatta 2020 has been cancelled.
The announcement was made by State Exco for Tourism, Arts, Culture and heritage, Yeoh Soon Hin in a press statement on Wednesday, March 4, 2020.
“Covid-19 outbreak which has caused many concerns among all parties.
“The event originally scheduled this June will be cancelled following feedback received from participants for the event to be called off.
“There are many foreign participants who have registered for the event and we received many requests for the event to be cancelled or rescheduled.“
“At the same time, we would like to ensure a safe and conducive environment for everyone to participate in,” he said.
He added that they hope that the situation will recover very quickly. Dragon Boat lovers and participants can look forward to join the Penang International Dragon Boat Festival in December this year.
