Penang Adventist Hospital

The Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH) has  been granted tax-exempt status for Penang Adventist Hospital Charity Fund (PAHCF) by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

The good news was shared by its President / Chief Executive Officer, Ronald Koh Wah Heng in a press statement today.

“On behalf of Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH), I am delighted to announce that we have been granted tax-exempt status for Penang Adventist Hospital Charity Fund (PAHCF) by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

“This approval is valid for five years, commencing 1st January 2021 to 31st December 2025.

“Following this approval, we are happy to confirm that we are able to issue tax-exempt receipts for donations to PAH with immediate effect,” said Koh.

He also added that obtaining tax exempt status for PAHCF is indeed a blessing for PAH.

“We can once again offer donors relieve of tax for their donations to our hospital charity fund. As a not-for-profit hospital, we partner donors who believe in our cause to fully realise our mission to help many patients in need to received timely and up to date medical treatments.

“This tax exempt status for PAHCF is most welcomed,” he added.

He disclosed that for the past one year since the revocation of the whole hospital’s tax exempt status, they have submitted numerous appeals for full reinstatement under Subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act, 1967 for PAH, but to no avail.

“We continue to appeal to IRB for the full reinstatement of tax-exempt status for we believe, as a not-for-profit hospital, it is important that we are able to plough back the taxable amount to upkeep and develop the hospital for the benefit of our local community.

“PAH, for the past 97 years, has held steadfast to our mission; reaching out to the poor and needy within our community. In 2020 alone saw us disbursing RM2,777,579 to assist 2,188 beneficiaries, despite the much lower donations received in the same year.

“With the availability of tax-exempt status for PAHCF, we pledge to remain devoted and unwavering in our mission by providing comprehensive, competent and excellent healthcare for all regardless of race, religion or creed as was pronounced by our founder,” said Koh.
