There is a new sculpture along Gurney Drive for members of the public to admire and appreciate.

Dubbed the “Luminous Pearl” , the project is the brainchild of IJM Perennial Development Sdn Bhd through a competition

Present to launch the sculpture was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin along with MOTAC Penang director Jonathan Freddy Bagang and officials from IJM.

Also present was Ms Goh Su Yin, IJM general manager Northern Region and chief operating officer Datuk Tony Ling.

In his address Yeoh expressed gratitude to IJM Perennial Development Sdn Bhd for this remarkable initiative.

“This project is not just a simple project to decorate Penang with artistic sculptures, but has also provided a platform for us to connect with creativity and also made it one step closer to fulfilling vision in positioning Penang as a creative city.

“The Penang Tourism Master Plan seeks to build on this active and vibrant arts community, strengthen opportunities for collaboration, and build capacity among local communities and organizations.

Aligning with the direction of Penang2030 to strengthen civic participation through empowerment, I want to build happier, healthier, more inclusive communities to develop an arts and culture environment unique to Penang.

“To achieve this, the Penang State Government is giving support to the most meaningful art which leave “community fingerprints” at public spaces that make our people feel represented in our state,” said Yeoh.

He also added that public art, like sculptures, are a powerful tool to represent our city identity, our people, our culture, our expression ,and our  vision.

“This sculpture tells the story of our state that has weathered storms, embraced change and emerged stronger and more vibrant than ever before.
