The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in Penang held a ceremony to present certificates of accreditation to hoteliers and related departments who have qualified to be hotel “star rating” inspectors in the state.

Leading the induction ceremony was Penang MOTAC director Jonathan Freddy Bagang and his team at the St Giles Wembley Hotel here.

Among the recipients were from the Malaysia Association of Hotels (MAH) Penang Chapter headed by its chairman, Tony Goh.

Also present was the Malaysia Budget & Business Hotel Association (MyBHA), Penang Chapter chairman, Andy Lau and his members.

Others who received their accreditations were Kevin Cheah (GM Iconic Hotel), Steven Suffian (GM Hompton Hotel), Amir Hashim (GM Cititel Penang), Lee Boon Kae (GM Sky Residence) among others.

Representatives from the Penang Island City Council, Fire Department, State Health Department, Seberang Prai City Council and Tourism Malaysia were among the recipients.

The new representatives will serve to be auditors and panelists for the accreditation team.

“We would like to welcome the new accreditation team on board to help us carry out our duties to assess the various star ratings for hotels, resorts and other places offering accommodation,” said Jonathan.
