Ismaili CIVIC

Ismaili CIVIC Malaysia harvested some 290 kilograms of vegetable crops from the Ismaili CIVIC Garden in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur recently.

Some 30 volunteers participated in the programme. More importantly, the harvested crops were donated to PERTIWI Soup Kitchen.

Ismaili CIVIC Garden was established in September 2021 with an aim to create a sustainable food source. Ismaili CIVIC Far East had pledge two (2) tonne of its harvest to PERTIWI Soup Kitchen, which provides humanitarian food-aid service to the homeless and hard-core poor irrespective of race or religion.

In addition to donating the harvested crop, Ismaili CIVIC volunteers had assisted PERTIWI in the distribution of cooked meals as well as basic grocery needs which had to benefit more than 800 individuals in the span of 2 days.

The harvesting was inaugurated by guest of honour  MP for Lembah Pantai, YB Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil during the meet and greet session with the Taban Residence.

Also present were Ismaili CIVIC partners, Ng SekSan (Founder of Kebun Kebun Bangsar); Puvan Kandasamy (President of Taban Committee); Prema Kandasamy (President of Lucky Garden Residents Association); along with approximately 20 Residence from the Taban Neighbourhood and members from the Ismaili CIVIC community.

“I am happy to be part of the Ismaili CIVIC program today, especially with harvesting our edible garden. We spend 5 weeks for every cycle tending to the garden to finally harvest the vegetables to be distributed to our partner PERTIWI Soup Kitchen. It’s indeed a very satisfying experience.” reflected Jasmine Husein a Ismaili CIVIC volunteer from Kuala Lumpur.

“It was an enriching, satisfying experience for a worthy cause. It was a great learning experience which helped me to realize a life beyond myself. Thank you to all the other volunteers and glad to be a part of Ismaili Civic.”, reflected Zahra Jiwani, another Ismaili CIVIC volunteer.

Since 2020, Ismaili CIVIC activities in more than 30 countries across the globe have benefited millions of people with over 1.3 million trees planted, more than 30,000 volunteers involved, over 125,000 hours of voluntary service conducted, more than 150 partners engaged, and more than 600 activities held. This effort is made up of Local Partnerships connected to global efforts to strengthen communities through areas of health, education, economic development environmental stewardship and cultural restoration.

Amidst these uncertain times, Ismaili CIVIC endeavour to strengthen the bonds between communities and foster collaboration and commitment to improving the human condition.
