Some 46,000 traders and government agencies in Seberang Perai stand to benefit by going cashless following a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the Seberang Perai City Council (MPSP) and Boost Business.

The “Digital Biz” project MOU was signed MPSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mahmud and  Boost Business chief executive officer Eric Chong Tiong Beng.

On hand to witness the ceremony was State Exco for Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning, Jagdeep Singh Deo.

“The programme is suitable during this Covid-19 pandemic when cashless transactions are a new norm whether for old or new businesses.

“The programme is in line with Penang2030 vision for a ‘Family Focused, Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.

“This programme is not new in Penang as the first market that we promoted cashless transactions was in Taman Tun Sardon in Penang island some two years ago,” added Jagdeep.

He also added that until now, they have succeeded in getting a total of 23 government agencies to use at least one e-payment service for the public.

“We hope to achieve 100% smart initiatives in 202,” he added.
