In tandem with their corporate mission, Hard Rock Hotel Penang is joining forces with Hard Rock Hotels worldwide and millions of environmental supporters to host an on-ground Earth Hour event on tomorrow (Saturday, 27 March 2021).

The event will take place from 8.30pm to 9.30pm to help spark global awareness and act toward building a healthier planet.

Earth Hour is an annual worldwide movement that encourages individuals, communities, households and businesses across the globe to turn off non-essential lights for an hour to raise awareness about the importance of acting on climate change.

Earth Hour 2021 will be a key moment to unite people worldwide, encouraging them to speak up for nature and stand in solidarity to show care for the future of our planet. Leading up to, and on the night of Earth Hour, Hard Rock Hotel Penang will encourage its guests to participate in the movement and voice their support for nature’s well-being by signing their pledge in the lobby.

During the single hour of darkness, all exterior lights and electricity, including lights of the building façade, driveway, garden, swimming pool, lobby, foyers and corridors in the hotels, will be turned off to reduce carbon footprint. All retail outlets including Rock Spa® and the Rock Shop® will be illuminated with decorative LED lights while the food and beverage outlets, including restaurants and bars, will offer candlelit meals.

To mark the occasion, Hard Rock Cafe Penang will offer a special refreshment throughout the night and guests can also get a glow-in-the-dark manicure in the lobby.

To further celebrate Earth Hour 2021, the hotel staff will be wearing glow-in-the-dark accessories throughout the night. Guests are encouraged to vacate their rooms after switching off the electricity and take part in the LED lights display at the Sunset Stage, or join the Vibe team at the Lobby Lounge for a fun night of dancing with glow-in-the-dark flash mobs.

“We are deeply committed to protecting our environment and staying true to our motto – ‘Save The Planet’ – by supporting the global climate change initiative in a fun and responsible manner.

“As part of the hotel’s environmental protection initiative, we have been actively practicing green efforts by using energy-saving LED lights, water-saving devices, automatic air-conditioning control systems with heat recovery, biodegradable cleaning materials, eco-friendly bathroom amenities for all guestrooms and going paperless with advertisements and communications. Together with the team, we hope to raise awareness and unite people to protect the planet.” said John Primmer, the General Manager of Hard Rock Hotel Penang
