Based on the feedback from the people, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow called on the National Security Council to take into account the threshold value of the various states in making their decision on the Phase Two on of the National Recovery Plan.

“This view is based on the different population of the states and the number of Covid-19 cases and not the overall national cases. Each state differs in cases and requires different strategies to be implemented.

“This message was communicated to the technical committee last Sunday. To this effect the state government and the state exco called on the National Security Council to adopt this proposal in moving forward to Phase Two on the National Recovery Plan,” said Chow at a press conference today.

He also disclosed that Penang will receive some 591,532 Covid-19 vaccine doses in July. The breakdown is as follows :-  July 5 to 10 – 131,255 doses, July 11 to 16 – 136,506 doses, July 17 to 22 – 130,150 doses and July 23 to 28 – 193,621 doses.

“This is to ensure that 10% of the population can be vaccinated with two doses and senior citizens can be vaccinated. This will also ensure those who have registered to be vaccinated,” said Chow.

In the meantime, State Exco for Local Government, Housing, Town and City Planning, Jagdeep Singh Deo added that the Penang City Stadium will be utilized to conduct mass testing of some 40,000 people from July 5.

“For start, it will involve four state constituencies namely Sungai Pinang, Padang Kota, Datuk Keramat dan Pulau Tikus. Some 19 hotspots will also be focused,” added Jagdeep at the same press conference.
