Setia Spice Convention Centre hosted some 200 guests to introduce new art pieces which will adorn the walls of the much anticipated Amari SPICE Penang.

Dubbed the “Setia Karya” art pieces, they consist of beautifully crafted art works depicting nature, portraits, abstract art forms in a myriad of colours. 

S P Setia had launched the campaign to align with the visions and goals of Penang Tourism Master Plan 2021-2030 that have always played a pivotal role in the local economy where Arts,Culture and Heritage are not merely for leisure purposes, but also able to stimulate the local economy.

Guests were treated to a free flow of cocktails, beer and wine with canapés put out by the hotel’s food and beverage team.

The networking session also saw a live band to entertain guests while they mingled and caught up with each other after so long.

Guest-of-honour was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin who was welcomed by the hotel’s suave general manager, Noorazzudin Omar and his team.

Also present was the Consul-General of Thailand in Penang Mr Raschada Jiwalai. Flying all the way from Kuala Lumpur was S P Setia Bhd’s deputy president and chief operating officer, Datuk Koe Peng Kang and Francis Teo, Head, Convention Centres, SP Setia.

In his address, Yeoh added that the initiative to promote art marks a refresh chapter to position Penang competitively in both domestic and international arenas

“The soon-to-be open contemporary business hotel at Setia SPICE which will be earmarked for opening in September 2022 whilst having a privilege appreciating the winning art pieces that will soon adorn the new hotel’s walls. 

“Besides, Amari SPICE Penang and Amari Kuala Lumpur are targeted to open their doors in September 2022 and wishes to offer its discerning guests a unique experience, affording them the opportunity to engage with the finest artworks in Malaysia’s vibrant art scene.

“The MICE travellers due to the purposes of their visit require specific services from the hotel that are different from what leisure tourists require. There is a considerable amount of tourists travelling to Penang for meeting, incentive, conference or event purposes,” said Yeoh.

He also added that the Penang State Government will continue working closely with the airlines, hoteliers, attraction operators and industry stakeholders to collectively deliberate ideas and potential campaigns, bringing the best of Penang to the world. 

Meanwhile, lending support was the chief executive officer of Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) Ashwin Gunasekeran, Dato Khoo Boo Lim representing MAH Penang, the DOSM of Amari SPICE Penang, Doris Hor and  Amari Kuala Lumpur general manager, Susan Anthony among others.

Guests were also treated to a lucky draw session offering complimentary stays at Amari Kuala Lumpur and food vouchers at the Amari SPICE Penang.
