Penang CM launching the GTF yesterday at Hin Bus Depot

Myriad colours, culture and tradition were on show for visitors taking advantage of the long weekend and holidays to visit Georgetown this time around.

Celebrations underway are the Georgetown Heritage Celebrations (July 7), George Town Festival and also the French Film Festival.

Making his rounds to join in the festivities was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow and the respective assemblymen.

Chow also launched the George Town Festival at the Hin Bus Depot where a large crowd gathered.

Numerous shows, workshops, events, pop-up booths, exhibitions and performances will be held till July 24 for the GTF for all to enjoy.

Also underway was the Georgetown Heritage Celebrations at the Lebuh Acheh Basketball court  and surrounding areas.

They are showcasing cultures and traditions of various races namely, Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures and traditional practices.

Among them are Boria, Gamelan, Dikir Barat, Chinese traditional music ensemble, puppet shows, Chinese opera show, Lion dance, Chinese drums, Hanna tattoo painting, traditional cookies and other booths brought by the Penang Hindu Association (PHA), Temple of Fine Arts among others.

Meanwhile, the French Film Festival features film screening at Gurney Plaza, jazz music at the Hin Bus Depot, Heritage Walk around Georgetown along with wine pairing dinner and champagne toasting.
